With a little gentle care, your Valentine's flowers will continue to bring warmth, elegance, and a touch of luxury into your home - not only on Valentine's Day itself, but for days beyond.

Hand-tied Bouquets - Fresh Cut Flowers

If your bouquet has been presented as a hand-tied arrangment without a water pack:

·       Carefully remove the outer wrapping

·       Using sharp scissors or secateurs, trim approximately 2cm from the base of each stem at a 45-degree angle

·       Remove any foliage that would sit below the water line

·       Place the bouquet into a clean vase filled with fresh water

These simple steps allows the flowers to drink freely, helping to maintain their freshness and natural beauty.

Hand-tied Aqua Bouquet

Many of our Valentine's Day flowers in Elgin are presented in a hand-tied aqua pack, allowing you to enjoy them immediately:

·      The bouquet may be left intact for a few days

·       Always place it on a protected surface

·       Top up the aqua bouquet regularly with flower food

If you wish to transfer your flowers into a vase:

1.     Carefully pierce the base of the aqua bouquet and allow the water to drain

2.     Gently remove the lower packaging

3.     The top wrap may be left on for support and visual beauty if desired

4.     Re-cut the stems and place into a clean vase filled with fresh water

Caring for Your Roses

Roses are the quintessential Valentine's Day flowers, and with a few extra steps, you can ensure they look their very best.

·       Trim stems carefully at a 45-degree angle under water to prevent air bubbles

·       Remove any lower leaves that would sit below the water line

·       Use a clean vase filled with fresh water and flower food

·       Change the water every 2-3 days and re-cut the stems each time

·        Gently remove the fading petals to encourage the remaining blooms to stay fresh

·         Keep your roses away from direct sunlight, drafts and heat sources

Common Problems and How to Fix Them

Even with the best care, sometimes flowers experience minor issues. Here's how to address them:

·       Wilting or drooping stems: Usually a sign of dehydration. Re-cut the stems under water at a 45-degree angle and refresh the vase with clean water and flower food.

·        Brown leaf edges: Often caused by too much direct sunlight or heat. Move your bouquet to a cooler, shaded spot.

·       Petals falling early: This can happen if the bouquet was exposed to temperature changes. Remove fallen petals and trim the stems to rejuvenate the blooms.

·       Discoloured water or unpleasant smell: Clean the vase thoroughly, add fresh water and flower food, and re-cut stems. Bacteria can quickly accumulate in stagnant water.

·       Closed blooms not opening: Gently mist the flowers with water and ensure they are kept in a room-temperature enviroment, away from drafts.

These solutions help extend the life of your Valentine's flowers in Elgin and ensure they remain vibrant and fragrant.

Looking After Your Flowers

To keep all your Valentine's flowers looking their best:

·       Position them away from direct sunlight, radiators and heat sources

·       Remove any fading blooms or foliage as they appear

·       Re-cut the stems after several day

·       Refresh the water regularly and ensure the vase is clean

A Note on Lilies

If your bouquet includes lilies:

·       Lily pollen can stain permanently - remove gently with tissue before it settle

·       Pollen may cause skin irritation

·       Lilies can be toxic to pets and children

We recommend keeping arrangments out of reach and placing them on a protected surfave, particularly when topping up water.
