At Bay Tree Florists, we’ve proudly served the Elgin community for over 28 years, creating and delivering beautiful floral arrangements every day. As a local, independent florist nestled in the heart of Morayshire’s stunning countryside, we’re deeply aware of the impact our business can have on the environment. That’s why we are fully committed to reducing our carbon footprint and embracing more sustainable practices.
We’ve launched a dedicated Eco Range of floral designs, using recyclable or biodegradable materials without compromising on the elegant presentation our customers know and love.
Key eco-friendly changes we've made include:
- Sustainable Packaging: All wrapping materials in our Eco range – including paper, tissue, gift boxes, care cards, and envelopes – are recyclable or biodegradable. Gift cards are now attached to bamboo stems or directly to the wrapping, eliminating the need for traditional plastic holders.
- Plastic Reduction: Our Eco designs use 95% less non-recyclable plastic compared to our pre-2018 packaging. Any remaining use of plastic, such as a single square of cellophane, is limited strictly to containing water within the design.
- Natural Finishes: We’ve replaced polypropylene florist ribbon with silk, hessian, and other naturally sourced materials. Ties are now made with biodegradable string.
- Eco-Friendly Floral Foam: We now use OASIS® biodegradable floral foam, offering the same high-quality performance in a more environmentally responsible form.
- Responsible Stock Use: We’ve completed a transition away from non-recyclable materials. However, to avoid unnecessary waste, we may still use up limited existing stock, such as plastic twine, but we will not purchase any more non-sustainable materials.
Caring for the environment is central to our ethos – not only for today, but for future generations. We are proud to be part of a growing movement towards sustainability in the floral industry, and we will continue to look for ways to evolve and improve.
